1. What we collect
When you use Precedent, we collect only:
- Your email address, when you start your $1 first month or create an account.
- Anonymous usage events (pages visited, buttons clicked, demo practice areas chosen). These contain no client facts and no document content.
- Account information, if you create an account: your email, a salted password hash, session timestamps, and a cryptographic link to your license key. We never store your plaintext password or raw key.
We do not collect your name, billing address, or payment details. Payments are processed by our payment provider, which handles billing information under its own privacy policy.
2. What we never do
- We do not store drafts, documents, or sources you generate or paste. Drafts live in your browser session and expire from our servers within 30 minutes.
- We do not use your documents to train a shared model.
- We do not sell or share your email address with anyone.
- We do not display advertising or track you across other sites.
3. What we store and why
We keep a small record of account emails and anonymized usage events so we can operate the service and improve the product. Account records are stored with a cryptographic hash of your license key, never the key itself. These records are kept on a secure server and deleted when you ask us to.
4. Public court records
Precedent drafts are built from public court decisions retrieved from CourtListener, a free non-profit service. Court decisions are public records; summarizing them is standard legal publishing practice.
5. Your rights
You can ask us at any time to delete your email, your account record, or your usage events. Email hello@precedent.work and we will action it within 7 days.
6. Refunds
Your $1 first month is refundable at any time, with no questions asked. Refunds are processed through our payment provider. After your first month, Precedent is $29/month, and you can cancel anytime.
